Bus Safety Information
We are looking forward to another year of safely transporting your student. We want you to know that safety is our main goal and we appreciate your cooperation. Below are a few of our requirements to ensure your students safety:

1. Students should arrive at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to their scheduled pick up time for the first week of school.
   
   
2. After the first week students should arrive at their bus stops at least 5 minutes prior.
   
   
3. Students should be out at their place of safety before the bus arrives to insure proper pick up. Drivers will assign your student a place of safety.
   
   
4. Most accidents occur while students are running to their bus stops and not waiting in their proper place of safety.

Any transportation changes must be made through the transportation office at 937-859-5121, Ext. 8961. Drivers are not permitted to change bus stops.

If a stop is not used after the second week of school, it will be dropped from the bus route. Students should ride the bus the first day of school to learn their bus driver’s name, bus route, bus stop and, most importantly, bus safety rules. If a student must cross in front of the bus, they must wait until the bus is stopped and the driver has checked to make sure traffic is stopped. The driver will then signal the student, who should also check traffic for themselves, before crossing the roadway.

Bus Safety Rules

Make sure your children know and follow these important bus safety rules

1. Be at the bus stop five minutes before the designated pick up time.
2. Never run to or from the bus.
3. Wait in a safe location away from the road.
4. Always stay seated while the bus is moving.
5. Never push or shove other students.
6. Do not yell or shout on the bus.
7. Always obey the driver.
8. Look for the driver’s signal before crossing the street.
9. Always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus.
10. Never crawl under a school bus.
11. Do not eat or drink on the bus.

Parents: Check your child’s coat, book bag and other items for straps or drawstrings that may get caught on parts of the bus and prevent your child from getting on or off the bus safely.

Keep your child’s bus number posted next to the school’s phone number.

Sharing the Road with School Buses

Many drivers instinctively slow down or stop when they approach a school bus but not everyone knows the laws governing bus safety.

• School buses must stop at all railroad crossings to make sure the tracks are clear.
• School buses are not allowed to back up while on school property.
• Traffic flowing with the school bus must always stop when it stops.
• Oncoming traffic must stop when the school bus stops on any road of 2, 3 or 4 lanes (neighborhood streets, Alex Bell Road).
• Bus riders are not permitted to cross more than three lanes of traffic.
• Oncoming traffic does not need to stop on roads of more than four lanes (St. Rt. 741, Alex Road).
