The West Carrollton Class of 2019 had 194 graduates who received a diploma at the graduation ceremony May 23. There were 38 graduates who received an Honors Diploma and five who received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence. Kyisa Champaco, Jessica Farmer, Leah Seitz and Yaniery Vazques all received a College Promise Scholarship, and 47 graduates received a scholarship from the Dayton-Montgomery County Scholarship program.
Valedictorian, Jessica Orozco, led the class with a 4.496 grade point
average. Her plans are to study journalism and Spanish at Ohio State
University. Salutatorian, Brandon Caissie, graduated with a 4.491 grade point
average. He plans to attend Xavier University and major in Biology. Both
students were active in the music program. Orozco played violin with the
orchestra for seven years and was the section leader of the second violins.
Caissie was involved in choir since 6th grade and was in the chamber
choir since his sophomore year.
Another outstanding graduate was Harmony Garber who earned a degree
from Sinclair prior to picking up her High School diploma. Garber graduated as
a Junior and plans to attend St. Leo University and to study special education.
A majority of West Carrollton graduates are planning to go to a college
or university. Many, like Caleb Hankins, plan to go to Sinclair first for gen
eds then transfer to a university. Hankins plans to transfer to Wright State
University to study computer science. Some of the graduates plan to attend a
trade school including Castle Carter who wants to study welding and Barry
Decker who wants to study CNC machining. Joining the military is another option
some of the graduates chose including Kylan Berry who is enlisting in the army
and Trinity Osterholz who is enlisting in the navy.
Class President, Nathaniel Mundy, spoke to the class and told them, “Never forget where you came from, and always wake up knowing the possibilities that will be in front of you.” Superintendent, Dr. Andrea Townsend, thanked the class for letting her be a part of their achievement and reminded them, “The world is now yours, but remember that each and every one of you will always be a Pirate.”
