Real World Reading & Reader's WorkshopMs. Lesley Blevins
Real World Reading: This is a 6/7.5 week related arts class for sixth and seventh graders. Students are required to bring their agenda and a 2 pocket folder with prongs to class.Real World Reading is designed to supplement and enhance the current Ohio 6th and 7th grade science and social studies curriculum with additional nonfiction reading material and to give students tools to read and succeed in the real world. We will also be looking at Kelly Gallagher's 9 Reading Reasons and using our agenda and the 40 developmental assests in our lessons and activities. Reader's Workshop: This is a 9 week class for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Students are required to bring their agenda to class, and all other supplies will be provided. Reader's Workshop is an intervention period for those readers that may need more help and special attention when it comes to reading. We will focus on comprehension and fluency through a variety of whole group, small group, and individual activities. This period will involve individualized instruction based on the needs of the learner and periodic assessment.PLEASE NOTE: Reader's Workshop is designed to be more of an ongoing process course, and therefore students will not receive a lot of grades for this class. It's important for students to turn in their book logs every two weeks and make sure they are in class every day!
