CONNECT HERE for an update that the School Board reviewed during a work session on July 15, 2020.
Since the passage of the West Carrollton School bond issue on November 5, 2019, progress on our new school buildings has been steady as we work toward a Fall 2020 groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of the building project.
As you drive by our schools, it seems like business as usual. Students and staff are hard at work inside the walls of our classrooms, but the Building Project is rapidly progressing behind the scenes. In December 2019, the School Board hired Garmann Miller Architects and Engineers to lead our building design team. Garmann Miller, due to their years of experience in school design, will provide expert guidance as we begin laying out the framework for our new buildings. During the pre-bond planning phase, Garmann Miller was instrumental in determining the size and locations for our future schools.
At the February 5, 2020, school board meeting, the Board hired Shook Construction, a Moraine company, as our Construction Manager at Risk to oversee the construction of our new facilities. Shook Construction provided a resume’ that includes overseeing the construction of 40 new school buildings within 30 miles of Dayton. Their most recent project was the completion of the new Preschool through 12th grade building in Northridge.
With our team in place, the District Design Team will begin seeking input from staff and the community to help shape the design of our new buildings. The goal is to provide staff and community members some design choices that will fit into our $44 million budget. Garmann Miller will seek input from staff during a February 14th visioning session, and the community will have an opportunity to provide insights in March during a public visioning session. A presentation of the outcomes from the visioning sessions will occur at a public forum once the design ideas are incorporated into our phase I school buildings.
A land survey contractor has been on site at Shade ECC and C.F. Holliday as the first phase of site development is already underway. In the coming weeks and months, you will see other contractors working on the grounds, outside of the student areas, as Garmann Miller and Shook prepare for the groundbreaking.
The district will continue to work with the communities, city officials, and staff to put together a design that not only provides an excellent education for our students, but is also a landmark that enhances our community. The West Carrollton School District will continue to provide updates as the project unfolds.
