The Walter Shade Early Childhood Center has been informed that three students in Mrs. Milano’s preschool class for the 2020-21 school year were the top readers in the Passport to Kindergarten program. There were 22 preschool classrooms and 379 students enrolled in the Passport to Kindergarten program from the Montgomery County Region.
Passport to Kindergarten, sponsored by PNC Grow Up Great, is a year-long program for Preschool teachers and their young learners’ families. The initiative promotes literacy and language skills by providing monthly professional development to Preschool teachers, while also offering free enriching learning opportunities to children and families.
Reading is a daily event in the ECC preschool classrooms. Students also get to enjoy visits from the bookmobile throughout the year.
During the 2019-20 school year, the two top readers in the program were also Pirates and also students in Mrs. Milano’s classroom!
