Group of students at the statehouse

The annual We the People Competition was held on January 23rd at the State House in Columbus. WCHS had 18 students compete. Teacher, PJ Carlisle, said, "All of them should be commended for their hard work, preparation, and professionalism. These students have worked hard since the first day of school to master a broad range of constitutional history and principles." At the competition, they were asked to take positions on both historical and contemporary constitutional issues.

This year, WC students finished in third place overall in the state competition. Two units earned medals for tying as our top-scoring units. They were Unit #5 composed of Brianna Cooke, Ava Cronenwett and Nicky Jensvold and Unit #6 composed of Kaden Davis, Peyton Ison and Andrew Strauss. Additionally, Unit #3 students, composed of Dina Giorgis, Tyson Nguyen, and Tessa Martin, earned the Ohio Constitutional Scholar Award as they earned the highest marks of all Unit #3 groups at the competition this year. This specific set of questions revolved around the 1851 Ohio Constitution. This is the first time Pirates have earned this award.
