West Carrollton High School will be adding an additional Career Tech Pathway course. In partnership with the Miami Valley Career Technology Center and Sinclair Community College, West Carrollton will offer Exercise Science in the 2027-28 school year.
Using YouScience student aptitude results, the new offering is already generating interest. Students are currently forming a Future Health Professionals Club, which High School science teacher Jennifer Parks will facilitate. A survey of students in grades 9 through 12 indicated that 33 wanted to join the club and 36 wanted more information.
Students who complete Exercise Science and Career Tech requirements will earn a $3,000 scholarship from Sinclair Community College upon graduation. Career paths for Exercise Science include cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation specialist, exercise physiologist, strength and conditioning coach, and personal trainer, as well as other healthcare roles such as respiratory therapist and physician assistant.
Additional details will be added to the Pirate Future Ready site on the district webpage as they become available.
The High School already offers pathway courses in engineering, media arts, and business/marketing. Students who complete their chosen course and Career Tech requirements will earn a $3,000 scholarship to Sinclair Community College to jumpstart their future careers.
The school district will continue to use aptitude data and student interest to offer more courses in the future, giving Pirates a pathway to success.
