Middle School students had special guests today. Veterans representing the Army and the Marines shared their military experiences during a presentation and a Q&A session. Thank you to our guests for keeping our students engaged and able to learn more about Veterans Day!

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all our active-duty military members and all those who have served. These two boys dressed as their heroes, and you are our heroes, too!

The first thing ECC employees do in the morning is greet students. Today they had an extra helper!

Intermediate School students had to have their passports when they visited Canada last week! Their destination was the All About Canada Museum, and to get there, they had to take a canoe filled with items for the trip. Working together, they applied their math skills to determine which items they could take. When they arrived at the museum, they learned more about Canada, including that the game of basketball was invented there in 1891, hockey is the national sport, and Canadians eat more donuts than any other country. They got a true taste of Canada when they sampled real maple syrup. Students will be visiting 13 countries throughout the school year, without ever leaving the classroom.

It's an exciting morning for 3 elementary students! They are eating breakfast with the firefighters at the West Carrollton Fire Department! Later, they will get to ride to school on the fire truck!

The West Carrollton community offers many opportunities for young Pirates, including being Champions! Congratulations to the young players, cheerleaders, and coaches for their outstanding performance and for becoming the 2025 Bantam Silver Bowl Conference Champions!

Some of our elementary students had a field trip, and all they had to do was walk to the West Carrollton Civic Center! The City Communications Manager, Miss Yvonne, showed students the offices at the Civic Center and the City Council room where the City Council meets. Students were able to meet police detectives, sit in the back of a police car, sit in the back of an ambulance, and see the inside of a fire truck. The visit coincides with what they have been learning about people improving their communities. Following the visit to the Civic Center, students visited the Dayton Metro Library to select books for research on an upcoming writing assignment about a person or group of people who contribute to their community.

Things looked different in Mrs. Schoenleben's class today. Even though she had a cowgirl, a police officer, and other mysterious characters in her classroom, they all managed to make it through the day.

Be safe. Be respectful. Be responsible. These kiddos brought the safety to the ECC!

ECC students looked a little different this morning when they came to school wearing their favorite costumes. Many of our students will be out this evening for Beggar's Night. Please watch out for them. Be especially cautious when driving. We want all of our Pirates to have a safe and fun night!

Intermediate School students were catapulting pumpkins this morning! Student teams created a catapult using rubber bands, popsicle sticks, and a plastic spoon. They used the device they made to catapult candy pumpkins and marshmallows onto a target.

Did you know that ghosts wear glasses? Some like to play musical instruments, while others enjoy playing on the playground. Whatever they are doing, and wherever they may be at WC Elementary, we can assure you that they are friendly.

Meet Ehaan. He didn’t always go to West Carrollton Schools, but he is glad he’s here now. His favorite subject is math because “it’s just how my brain works.” He enjoys talking about equations. He likes participating in the Uno Club at school and enjoys gym time. Outside of school, he enjoys playing football, video games, riding his bike, and spending time outdoors. He said, “I really enjoy time outside.” Ehaan isn’t sure what he would like to do after he graduates in 2033, but we will be here to help him along the way! What is orange and squishy? Some of the Middle School students found out that it's the inside of a pumpkin!

7th-grade students had a wheel-y good time at Skateworld. They skated into the fun by demonstrating positive behavior, including good attendance and good grades. 8th-grade students exhibiting positive behavior rolled into fun earlier in the week when they visited Poelking Lanes to bowl. That's how Pirates roll!

Middle School students have been traveling throughout 21 Hispanic countries without ever leaving the school! Students used a passport in their advisory classes to "visit" one Spanish-speaking country each day and write down what they learned. Students who completed their passports were entered into a raffle for a Hispanic Heritage Month Lunch! One student from each advisory class was selected to learn about the cuisine in different Hispanic countries. Students got to try things like “gallo pinto” (a rice and bean dish) from Costa Rica, “empanadas” (savory pastries stuffed with different meats and/or veggies) from Argentina, “enchiladas” (stuffed and rolled tortillas covered in sauce) from Mexico, and various candies and drinks from several Hispanic countries. The lunch was a huge success with students being brave to try new things and surprised to find that they actually liked the things they weren’t so sure about! Additionally, every student across the building created a quilt square during their advisory class with a drawing that represented one of the 21 Hispanic countries. Classes voted on their “top 5” in each advisory, and those squares were put together as a "quilt" to unify our student body in all that we’ve learned this past month.

Moraine Fire Marshal Doug Hatcher visited fifth-grade students today and talked about home fire prevention. Some of the things they learned were to use surge protectors instead of extension cords, not to walk away from a burning candle or anything cooking, and to unplug appliances when they're not in use. High School students interested in attending The Ohio State University had a visit this morning from a university enrollment representative. She had information to share, including that the university offers over 200 majors and has over 1,400 student organizations. This is one of the opportunities West Carrollton students have as they explore options and choose the path they would like to follow after graduation. #theohiostateuniversity #westcarrolltonhighschool
