School Bus Safety Diagram

Bus safety includes our bus drivers and vehicle drivers! We want all of our Pirates to arrive at school and back home safely.

Check out the diagram to know when you should stop for a school bus. Other important school bus information is:

  • Yellow lights: A bus is planning to come to a stop.

  • Red lights and stop arm: The bus is stopping.

  • Drivers must stop in both directions on a two-lane road.

  • On a road with fewer than four lanes, all traffic approaching a stopped school bus from either direction must completely stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus and remain stopped until the bus begins to move or the bus driver signals motorists to proceed.

  • If the bus is stopped on a street with four or more lanes, only traffic proceeding in the same direction as the bus must stop. This would include St. Rt. 741 and Alex Bell Road.

Other bus safety information is:

  • School buses must stop at all railroad crossings to make sure the tracks are clear.

  • School buses are not allowed to back up while on school property.

  • Bus riders are not permitted to cross more than three lanes of traffic.

Reminder-- The speed limit in school zones is 20 MPH. Signs are posted at each school to designate the school zone.

Anyone driving on school property should always be alert and watch for children. Drive slowly and be courteous to other drivers and the school staff.
