three adults with two children who are holding certificates

West Carrollton Early Childhood Center is a Purple Star School. The school received the designation for its support of students who are the children of military members.

Military families move, on average, once every two to three years. The children of these families move from school to school during those moves. Sometimes those children begin the school year at one school and finish at another. The Early Childhood Center has partnered with the Department of the Air Force Child and Youth Programs to recognize children of parents serving in any branch of the military and to provide services and resources to those students and families.

April is the Month of The Military Child. This morning, Principal Mrs. Longworth, Teacher and Military Liaison Miss Reichert, and District Social Worker Mrs. Meyer presented students with a parent(s) in the military a special certificate thanking them for their service, an eagle, and a red, white, and blue hat.

During the week of April 13th, the school will be having a Spirit Week that begins with a visit from representatives of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base School Liaison Office and Ohio's MIC3 State Commissioner, Pete Lupiba. They will be given a tour of the school and have an opportunity to meet with the students who are military-connected. The week will be highlighted by "Purple Up" day, which encourages everyone to wear purple to show their support of military children.
