West Carrollton teachers are always going above and beyond. One example is when West Carrollton Elementary teacher Shauna Ward heard one of her students, Asher Collins, say he loved the police. She made him a special badge and put him in charge of the safety patrol in her classroom. The position came with a radio and a whistle.

Asher has taken his job seriously. He makes sure his classmates are safe at school and on the playground and keeps an eye out for suspicious behavior in the hallways.

The West Carrollton Police Department heard about Asher and decided to go above and beyond, too! They paid him and his classmates a surprise visit. His mother told him the morning of the visit that it would be a special day, but he was completely surprised when officers arrived.

Officers arrived with pens, fidget balls, and cupcakes for the class. Officer Osburn led a Q&A session and shared safety tips, including that police officers are trusted adults to go to for help. Students then saw a police cruiser and heard the siren.

Officer Osburn had a swearing-in ceremony for Asher where he promised to look out for his siblings and friends at school. Channel 2 covered Asher's story.
