It’s beginning to look like a baseball field! Construction of a new baseball facility is happening at the former Harold Schnell Elementary site. There is still a lot of work to be done, and a lot of grass to grow before the Pirates can play there, but if work stays on schedule and nature cooperates, the field should be ready for the spring season.
The former baseball field is now part of the construction area for the new Middle School/High School. The Pirates have been playing home games at Wax Park in Moraine and Action Sports in Dayton for the past two seasons.
Marc Hill, a West Carrollton alumnus from the Class of 1999 and current varsity baseball coach, wanted to make sure that the legacy of past players wasn’t forgotten. To honor the senior players from the past two seasons and include those who missed their senior year due to COVID, Coach Hill had them sign a baseball that was buried beneath home plate of the new field.
“These players may not have had the chance to play on campus, but their names are now literally part of the foundation of the future,” said Coach Hill. “It’s a way to connect the past to the present and recognize their role in the program’s history.”
Students interested in joining the team and playing on the field for the first season should contact Coach Hill at baseball@wcsd.k12.oh.us for preseason workout information.
