The West Carrollton Student Council organized the annual blood drive at the High School. High School students are a large group of first-time donors who contribute to the blood supply (10-13%), and students who contribute in High School are more likely to become lifelong donors.
The blood drive collected 68 units of blood, which exceeded the goal of the Student Council (115%). More importantly, 159 potential lives may be saved from the donations received.
West Carrollton High School teams with Miamisburg High School every year to participate in Unity in the Community. Participating in the blood drive earns the school the opportunity to donate $1,000 to its charity of choice. Universal 1 Credit Union sponsors the event, and the $1,000 donation is made every other year from either West Carrollton or Miamisburg.
This year was the turn of Miamisburg High School, and they chose to donate to Care House. Student Council representatives from each school joined together on December 2 to present the check during a basketball game at Miamisburg.
