High School teacher, Mrs. Carlisle, is in the front row of this picture, showing her Pirate Spirit by wearing red and black. She took that spirit to Washington for an incredible experience. In her own words:
JULY 9, 2026: This past week, I had the opportunity to spend several days in Washington, D.C., at the We the People Summer Institute with the Ohio Center for Law Related Education. The theme was "Forgotten Founders of America 250", with a focus on how women at the time of the Revolution supported the founding, how indigenous communities influenced the Founding generation, how enslaved people and free Black Americans impacted independence, and how "common" people we don't typically consider Founders affected the formation of the Union.
While there, I had the opportunity to collaborate with other educators, visit various historical sites/museums, and participate in 36 hours of professional development.I know that West Carrollton schools have offered We the People since at least the 1990's (when I was a student). I have had the privilege of teaching this course for two decades. It is the most challenging course I have taught in my career, but also the most rewarding.
Our students who take this course leave with not only a vast range of historical and contemporary constitutional knowledge but also skills that will serve them well into adulthood, regardless of their path in life. I truly believe in the value of this program, and participation in it is a one-of-a-kind experience for our students.
