Today, we presented the certificates to some of the team members and Coach Parker. The basketball team certificate will be going to the school's trophy case.

The new Middle/High School is impressive, but we're not forgetting our history! Find out about the Middle School bell (and why it's really just a school bell), and how the Pirate Ship from the floor of the High School serves as the division between the Middle School and High School, and also as a rite of passage as students transition from 8th grade to the High School.

A large bell on a brick base with a metal frame is displayed in a hallway. Behind it, there are red columns and a door.
A square floor design features a pirate ship with a red sail and the word "Pirates". It is placed on a black floor with white and red borders.
You may have seen the new Middle/High School from the outside, but there are things you can't see! The student-run Pirate Bay Cafe has been relocated to the new school and will continue to serve students and staff when school resumes in August. The new courtyard has a deck shaped like a ship. The dining area for students is full of light. The High School gym has seating for Pirate fans and visitors as well as special seating for students and the pep band. Classrooms are well-lit and designed to meet the needs of individual classes. Hallways and lockers are ready for students' arrival in August. Some hallways offer a view into the courtyard. The library ceiling has been painted with a Pirate compass, and yes, the directions on the compass are accurate! There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house prior to the beginning of school. Stay tuned! We will publish that date when it's available.

Spring Musical Director, Brian Coleman, posed with the cast of Hadestown, The Teen Edition, which will be on stage next weekend at the High School. Shows are April 24th and 25th at 7 p.m., and April 26th at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $13 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens at https://cur8.com/19905/project/137793 or at the door on the day of the show for $14.

After 36 musicals as a student and as a teacher, Hadestown will be the final curtain call for Mr. Coleman. Earlier this year, Mr. Coleman announced his retirement, effective January 1, 2027.

Meet Jamisia. She has been a Pirate since preschool. She describes herself as a “big music head,” with a love for everything from R&B to gospel, rap, and hip-hop. She recently performed an 80’s/’90s R&B piece at the talent show. Jamisia has also shown her musical talent in the Symphonic Choir and Show Choir. Being in the musicals has been one of her favorite experiences in High School. “Seeing everything come together is really amazing.” She had roles in Seussical the Musical, Charlie Brown, and The Addams Family. Outside of music, she has participated in volleyball and has been a member of the Spanish Club. When asked what she will miss most about High School, she said, “Definitely the teachers, being able to have that safe space and create bonds.” She recognized Mr. Hauk for helping to spark her love for social studies. “He’s so talented. He’s one of the best teachers.” Her advice to incoming freshmen is, “Don’t procrastinate. Study. Be on top of your stuff. Time management is what it’s all about.” Following graduation, Jamisia plans to attend the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash to pursue a degree in diagnostic medical sonography with the goal of becoming an ultrasound technician. “I see myself becoming an ultrasound tech, possibly going back to school to become a pediatric nurse practitioner, just being successful with what God has destined for me to do.” She said, “I love to help people, especially kids. It refreshes my soul.” Congratulations, Jamisia! No matter where you go, you will always be a Pirate! #wcclassof2026

Thank you to all of our partners who came to the High School last week for Lunch and Launch, where they met with students in small groups to discuss opportunities in business, community service, and entrepreneurship. Combined with College Fairs and Career Fairs during High School, Pirates have a chance to explore the future and make a plan for what they might like to do after graduation.

West Carrollton High School was the site for OMEA Large Group performances this past weekend. Over 800 student musicians performed, including our High School Concert Winds. They received the HIGHEST RATING possible, earning a SUPERIOR RATING!! As part of their stage performance, a portion of their combined score is sight-reading a piece of music. They get a few minutes to study a piece of music they've never seen, then play it to the best of their abilities. The Pirates did not disappoint, delivering a phenomenal performance! GO PIRATES!!

Meet LaDarius. We spoke to him earlier in the school year when he was trying to decide between attending Sinclair or Bowling Green after graduation. He is now learning towards Bowling Green, but that may be hard for him. While at Boys Buckeye State last summer, he admits to being homesick. Besides Boys Buckeye State, LaDarius has been involved in Business Professionals of America. Along with his teammates, he placed in the regional competition for the Podcast Production Team, which qualified him for the State competition. He has also enjoyed doing video production and broadcast news at school. He served as the Spirit Captain at school, which he enjoyed because it let him get to know more people. LaDarius was also the Soccer Captain. One of his favorite soccer experiences was scoring his first hat trick. “I felt like I was on top of the world.” He ended up with two hat tricks for the season. In the classroom, he was first in the school on the Americanism test, which covers government processes and the Ohio State government. He said he enjoyed Ms. McNally’s government classes, and she was the one who referred him to Boys Buckeye State. He said many teachers inspired him in school, including his Middle School Teacher, Mr. Vest, “who was silly and goofy and made me enjoy social studies,” and his High School teacher, Mr. Newman, “who challenges me every day.” He said what he would miss most about WC is, “The overall experience of being with all kinds of different people. It’s way more diverse than some schools and way more inclusive. It’s a special place.” His advice for incoming freshmen is, “Don’t take it for granted. Set yourself up with a good GPA. It goes by fast. You don’t have much time.” Congratulations LaDarius! No matter where you go, you will always be a Pirate! #wcclassof2026

Meet Mrs. Mitchell. She has been an educator since 1996 and teaches English at the High School. She said, “West Carrollton is my home. I met my husband here! It’s just like family.” Over the years, she has been a coach and involved in cross country, track, and wrestling. She enjoys supporting the Pirates throughout all of the athletic seasons. Mrs. Mitchell is also involved in school dances, and she especially enjoys helping students organize the community Christmas party. “I’ve had amazing experiences here, and I’m blessed to have it.” She has formed lasting relationships with many of her students, met their families, and gone to some of their weddings. When asked what makes West Carrollton special, she immediately answered, “The kids! If you want to feel like a superstar, teach at West Carrollton.”
