Meet LaDarius. We spoke to him earlier in the school year when he was trying to decide between attending Sinclair or Bowling Green after graduation. He is now learning towards Bowling Green, but that may be hard for him. While at Boys Buckeye State last summer, he admits to being homesick. Besides Boys Buckeye State, LaDarius has been involved in Business Professionals of America. Along with his teammates, he placed in the regional competition for the Podcast Production Team, which qualified him for the State competition. He has also enjoyed doing video production and broadcast news at school. He served as the Spirit Captain at school, which he enjoyed because it let him get to know more people. LaDarius was also the Soccer Captain. One of his favorite soccer experiences was scoring his first hat trick. “I felt like I was on top of the world.” He ended up with two hat tricks for the season. In the classroom, he was first in the school on the Americanism test, which covers government processes and the Ohio State government. He said he enjoyed Ms. McNally’s government classes, and she was the one who referred him to Boys Buckeye State. He said many teachers inspired him in school, including his Middle School Teacher, Mr. Vest, “who was silly and goofy and made me enjoy social studies,” and his High School teacher, Mr. Newman, “who challenges me every day.” He said what he would miss most about WC is, “The overall experience of being with all kinds of different people. It’s way more diverse than some schools and way more inclusive. It’s a special place.” His advice for incoming freshmen is, “Don’t take it for granted. Set yourself up with a good GPA. It goes by fast. You don’t have much time.” Congratulations LaDarius! No matter where you go, you will always be a Pirate! #wcclassof2026

Meet Mrs. Mitchell. She has been an educator since 1996 and teaches English at the High School. She said, “West Carrollton is my home. I met my husband here! It’s just like family.” Over the years, she has been a coach and involved in cross country, track, and wrestling. She enjoys supporting the Pirates throughout all of the athletic seasons. Mrs. Mitchell is also involved in school dances, and she especially enjoys helping students organize the community Christmas party. “I’ve had amazing experiences here, and I’m blessed to have it.” She has formed lasting relationships with many of her students, met their families, and gone to some of their weddings. When asked what makes West Carrollton special, she immediately answered, “The kids! If you want to feel like a superstar, teach at West Carrollton.”

Last week, High School Sophomores visited the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (CTC). The CTC offers a variety of programs, including agriculture, animal care, health care, cosmetology, early childhood education, computer networking, electric trades, precision machining, and digital design. There are many others to choose from, too, and the students were able to see all of the programs. The day wasn't just about the students! The adults were able to show off some crafting skills and bring home their very own snowman! Thank you to the CTC for making this a fun and informative day!

We are paws-itively excited about having a new girl in school! Tabitha (Tabby) just graduated from Therapy Dog school. Tabby's role model is her big sister, Sammy the Therapy Dog. Sammy has been working in the schools for many years with her person, Erin Newsome. Sammy will continue with her therapy duties, and whenever she takes a day off, Tabby will take over. Sammy has left big paw prints to fill, but Tabby is ready for the challenge!

Middle School students considering majoring in communications and media production in college had an in-depth look at a possible career. Media Production class students, along with News Crew students, toured the Roger Glass Center for the Arts at the University of Dayton. They met current UD students working on a documentary about social media and engaged in conversations about how social media affects their lives. Following the tour, they enjoyed lunch and talked about their experience!

Today is World Kindness Day. If we start kindness at home, kids can take it to school and share it with their teachers, support staff, and classmates. Teachers, support staff, and classmates can take it home and share it with their families. It can keep spreading from there! Let's make the school district a kind place to be!

High School students interested in attending The Ohio State University had a visit this morning from a university enrollment representative. She had information to share, including that the university offers over 200 majors and has over 1,400 student organizations. This is one of the opportunities West Carrollton students have as they explore options and choose the path they would like to follow after graduation. #theohiostateuniversity #westcarrolltonhighschool
