It's a beautiful Spring Day, and it's Earth Day. Ms. Rosholt and Ms. Taylor’s class at the middle school celebrated both with some time spent outside and some dirt pudding. Not to worry. It wasn't real dirt or worms!

The new Middle/High School is impressive, but we're not forgetting our history! Find out about the Middle School bell (and why it's really just a school bell), and how the Pirate Ship from the floor of the High School serves as the division between the Middle School and High School, and also as a rite of passage as students transition from 8th grade to the High School.

You may have seen the new Middle/High School from the outside, but there are things you can't see! The student-run Pirate Bay Cafe has been relocated to the new school and will continue to serve students and staff when school resumes in August. The new courtyard has a deck shaped like a ship. The dining area for students is full of light. The High School gym has seating for Pirate fans and visitors as well as special seating for students and the pep band. Classrooms are well-lit and designed to meet the needs of individual classes. Hallways and lockers are ready for students' arrival in August. Some hallways offer a view into the courtyard. The library ceiling has been painted with a Pirate compass, and yes, the directions on the compass are accurate! There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house prior to the beginning of school. Stay tuned! We will publish that date when it's available.
The weather has been beautiful, especially for playing softball! We have some pictures from a recent Middle School game. Go Pirates!
Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) members ran a hygiene drive, collecting soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and more to donate to HTC (formerly known as Hannah's Treasure Chest). Special shout-out to Jordan L. and his mom! Jordan brought in the most items, and his mom, who is a dental hygienist, was able to secure numerous donations. West Carrollton Schools partners with HTC to provide families in need with children's clothing and hygiene products. Our school wanted to give back to support the agency that helps so many families in our district. (All referrals to HTC go through a partner agency). Pictured are some NJHS members who were available to help load the car for District Social Worker Nicole Meyer so she could deliver the donations. Families who need resources may contact Mrs. Meyer at nmeyer@wcsd.k12.oh.us for assistance. If you would like to shop at HTC, you can visit https://www.shophannahs.org/ for information including hours. If you would like to know more about HTC, or are interested in making a donation, visit https://www.htcdayton.org/
Congratulations to Reagan! Her classmates voted, and she won the 7th-grade talent show with her dance act.

Who's got talent? Middle School students do! 7th-grade students (and some staff members) showcased their talents this morning and performed for their classmates. Great job, Pirates!

Middle School students interested in graphic design and media production had a special experience today (even on a day off from school!). The Dayton Dragons opened their doors for students to job-shadow and see what happens behind the scenes at the ballpark. This is one of the opportunities for WC students to explore the future! We appreciate the partnership with the Dayton Dragons and their help in making this day happen. GO Dragons and GO Pirates!
