Our School District

Welcome to the West Carrollton City Schools, the school district of choice in Ohio. Our mission is to engage students' minds, muscles, and imaginations. West Carrollton Schools are "Committed to Excellence".

We are a suburban school district located south of the City of Dayton in the southern portion of Montgomery County, Ohio. We serve more than 3,700 K-12 students. Our ten square mile district serves portions of three municipalities, the City of West Carrollton, City of Moraine, and Miami Township.

Our School Programs

One of our core beliefs is "continuous improvement is an institutionalized habit". Our teachers and district staff work very hard to meet the individual needs of each student through differentiated instruction as well as English as a Second Language, Special Education, Gifted, and other support systems. The foundation for all of our academic efforts is the Search Institute's framework for the 40 Developmental Assets. The 40 Developmental Assets are the positive experiences and personal qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.

Early Childhood

The Walter Shade Early Childhood Center offers All-Day Kindergarten and Preschool programming to its youngest students. Content is focused on providing opportunities in social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth. The mission of the ECC is to provide child-friendly, developmentally appropriate activities that meet the individual needs of each child, while ensuring supportive, successful experiences. ECC Students benefit from hands-on technology available to them and are prepared for more advanced technology usage in elementary school and beyond.

Elementary

Our elementary program is designed to provide students with the essential elements on which to build a successful educational career. Our elementary teachers focus on the acquisition and application of knowledge and utilize a Standards Based Report Card. We use a district-wide Formative Assessment Process to continually assess the effectiveness of our instruction and learning. One of our core beliefs is "the fundamental purpose of school is learning, not teaching." WC elementary students develop skills to help them be more successful learners and are well prepared for the middle school experience.

There are four WC Elementary Schools, C.F. Holliday, Frank Nicholas, Harry Russell, and Harold Schnell (a year-round school).

Middle School

The West Carrollton Middle School provides sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students with a rigorous core curriculum in mathematics, science, reading, English language arts, and social studies as well as diverse elective course options that give students the benefit of pursuing an array of interests.
