May 4 Levy Announcement by Dr. Clifford
The West Carrollton School District will be on the November 8, 2016 ballot with a 5.5 mill, 5 year operating levy request. As a result of not passing the 5.5 mill levy request on March 15, 2016 the following cost saving reductions will take place: 1) prior to the start of the 2016-17 school year, we will only provide transportation per the state minimum – Kindergarten – 8th grade and living two or more miles from school, 2) there will be no transportation for the high school or preschool and, 3) we will be making an additional $215,000 in budget reductions.

If the levy does not pass on November 8, 2016, these changes will follow: 1) we will be making 20 teacher/staff reductions prior to the start of the 2017-18 school year, 2) we will continue to provide transportation per the state minimum and, 3) we will be back on the May 2, 2017 ballot with a 6.8 mill operating levy request.

If the 5.5 mill levy for 5 years passes on November 8, 2016, these changes will follow: 1) we will bring back transportation for Kindergarten – 8th grade at the 1 mile limit by January, 2017. 2) we will provide transportation to the high school, and 3) we will not be making 20 teacher/staff reductions.

Student Asset Builders Recognized
Congratulations to our Asset Builders of the Month:

Every month our teachers choose a student 'Asset Builder' for each school building. These are the top seven Asset Builders for April; they demonstrate an understanding of the '42' Developmental Assets and exemplify multiple assets. What are "assets?" Strengths and positive qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. Here's the complete list of the 42' Developmental Assets.

Emphasis on Testing Needs to Change - Dr. Clifford
We are a nation and a state with an over-emphasis on testing! This myopic focus on test, testing, and tested has got to change.  Teachers spend an exorbitant amount of energy and education preparing students for and taking tests. All of the 16 public school districts in Montgomery County look forward to being held accountable. We have high expectations for all of our students. We focus on student growth, graduation, and career goals. We are developing students’ curiosity and imaginations and creating critical thinkers and problem-solvers.
